About the Event
We are very pleased to offer a new seminar by Jonathan Hirschfeld and Ilya Gefter on Caravaggio's "Beheading of Saint John the Baptist".
The discussion will address the circumstances surrounding the creation of Caravaggio's masterpiece and the drama of the artist's last years.
We will present a series of Caravaggio’s innovations and analyze the painting from philosophical and artistic perspectives, situating it within its context of other works from the period.
About the Lecturer:
Jonathan Hirschfeld is an Israeli painter, writer, journalist, and curator. His works engage in a conceptual and visual dialogue with mythologies and early Israeli modernist traditions. He conducts public lectures on art history, he is a co-founder of Hanina Gallery and is a columnist for Haaretz newspaper. Hirschfeld exhibited in many galleries and museums, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
