Pieta - The Spiritual Testament of Titian : Seminar by Jonathan Hirschfeld and Ilya Gefter

We are very pleased to present a new series of online lectures on masterworks of Western Art by Jonathan Hirschfeld!

In the first lecture, we will focus on the final work of Titian, a great master of the Renaissance who marked the beginning of a new language of painting. We will get to know the mature Titian in contrast to his early works. We will explore how Titian embodies the concept of the “late style” in art. We will learn how to analyze a work of art and delve into the secrets of this opaque, enigmatic, and elusive painting, which Titian viewed as his spiritual testament—a lamp shining one terrible, final glow before it is extinguished forever.
