Pieta
The Spiritual Testament of Titian
Lecture by Jonathan Hirschfeld and Ilya Gefter
Lecture by Jonathan Hirschfeld and Ilya Gefter
from the series of online seminars "Masterworks"
Titian was a great master of the Renaissance who marked the beginning of a new language of painting. We will get to know the mature Titian in contrast to his early works. We will explore how Titian embodies the concept of the “late style” in art. We will learn how to analyze a work of art and delve into the secrets of this opaque, enigmatic, and elusive painting, which Titian viewed as his spiritual testament—a lamp shining one terrible, final glow before it is extinguished forever.
